Our AAT Certificate in Accounting Level 2 course allows you to gain skills whilst increasing your confidence and learning at your own pace. This internationally recognised course will prepare you for a career within Accountancy as you gain the foundational skillset and knowledge needed.

This course covers a range of basic principles such as costing, double entry bookkeeping and using accounting software. You will gain core skills including processing of payments and receipts, preparing invoices, completing bank reconciliations and business communication skills including letters, memos and informal reports.

You will gain practical, real-world accounting and finance skills, with the freedom to study flexibly, from anywhere. This course is the first step on the AAT qualification route.

LEARNING TOPICS

Learning journey overview

This course is split into four manageable units

You’ll learn the basic principles of double-entry bookkeeping systems and ledger accounts. You will also be able to process day-to-day financial transactions for suppliers and customers and bank transactions.
Processing customer and supplier transactions

This builds on the knowledge and skills from the first unit. You’ll learn about control accounts, bank reconciliation, dealing with errors, and the purpose of using the journal.
Drafting the initial trial balance following adjustments

You’ll learn about cost recording systems within an organisation, use cost recording techniques, provide information on actual and budgeted costs and income, and basic spreadsheet skills to support cost calculations.

This unit will prepare you for the internal and external business environment. You’ll learn about the legal system, principles of contract law, corporate social responsibility, ethics, and sustainability. You’ll also learn how the finance function fits within an organisation and how to communicate effectively.

This course is ideal for employees at the beginning of their accountancy career, or those who need to refresh their knowledge on the basic principles and techniques.

By completing this qualification, individuals gain knowledge and confidence in areas such as: completing VAT returns accurately; preparing and extending a trial balance; and the principles of ethical working.

Roles that individuals would be eligible for after this course include: Accounts Administrator, Tax Assistant, and Trainee Accounts Technician.
