This entry level apprenticeship is designed for those that are looking to start a career in accountancy or for those looking to reskill into a new area.

The Babington Finance or Accounts Assistant Level 2 apprenticeship, which includes completed of the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, has been developed by industry experts to build the skills required for aspiring accountants, providing a foundation in the core accounting knowledge. This programme introduces bookkeeping and the principles that underpin double-entry, the use of control accounts and reconciliations leading to the creation of journals and a trial balance, alongside building business awareness and the principles of contract law, types of business entity, the role of a finance function within an organisation, and the appropriate formats and communication methods required to produce work effectively.

Whether you are looking for your first role, or have some experience but want to top up your skills and competencies by achieving the AAT Level 2 qualification, your new skillset will allow you to add value to your organisation as you learn and develop your knowledge across the basic principles of accountancy.

Our Finance or Accounts Assistant programme combines dedicated workplace mentoring, on-the-job experience, access to high-quality online resources alongside an outstanding blended delivery model. This apprenticeship is ideal for those starting a career in accountancy for the first time and introduces the basic principles required to start your journey to become an accountant.

For learners

This programme will give you the introductory skills needed to commence a career as an accountant, you will develop the knowledge and to support the bookkeeping process and transactions leading to the creation of journals and the trial balance. You will learn the principles of basis costing and build a solid foundation in the knowledge and skills required for more complex accounting tasks. This level 2 qualification will open doors to further your career as an accountant progressing to the level 3 apprenticeship or AAT qualification.

Process transactions into the ledger accounts

Reconciling the bank statement with the cash book
Using journals and preparing the trial balance

Business understanding and types of business entity
The finance function and importance of financial information

The End Point Assessment for this level 2 apprenticeship will take place in the final 3 months of your programme. This is your chance to evidence your learning through different assessments methods, these are a combination of the completion of the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting qualification and a 60-minute professional discussion of your understanding.
