Do you have a passion for music and all things digital? Want the chance to be creative and develop key skills? There are plenty of valuable opportunities available at Cross Rhythms, a radio station broadcasting to Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme.
What does the role involve?
This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Cross Rhythms, with a variety of different roles in different departments, including:
- Music editorial admin assistant
- Broadcasting assistant
- Accounts assistant
- Reception and business admin
- Advertising and marketing
For 12 weeks I was trained in administration and reception at Cross Rhythms. During my time there I learnt a lot, not just about myself and my abilities, but about working life, new skills, and things I never thought I could do. The team at Cross Rhythms have given me more encouragement to do things myself, and I have loved every second of it.
During the course I have made many new friends who have helped me develop. I have become more confident and have come out of my shell. Doing this course has given me the skills and confidence I need to look for jobs and be considered as an applicant, and to not to get written off at the first hurdle.
I would like to thank everybody at Cross Rhythms – I am extremely grateful for all their patience and their ability to help me understand and learn. Hopefully one day I will be volunteering for Cross Rhythms; it is a really welcoming company. I would do the traineeship all over again in a heartbeat, and I recommend it to anybody who is looking to learn new skills in work and life.
What skills will I gain?
The skills you can gain vary with each opportunity.
For example, a broadcasting assistant position will improve your communication skills, as you’ll be arranging your own interviews for the station, while the media editorial assistant role will strengthen your IT skills. The advertising and admin role will improve your research skills, and the position in reception will strengthen your telephone manner.
Overall, the aim of the Cross Rhythms traineeship is to give you the confidence and skills needed to be more attractive to potential employers in the future. After a traineeship with Cross Rhythms, 50% of trainees were taken straight into employment and or an apprenticeship.
