Learning Journeys – Learning at Work Week 2020

Celebrating the importance of continuous learning, Learning at Work Week 2020 puts a spotlight on the benefits of skills development within the workplace.

Starting from 5th – 11th October 2020, this year’s theme is ‘Learning Journeys’.

At Babington, we have a people-orientated culture, seeking to promote development, innovation and best practice for young people, adult learners and workplace employees. 

Through our range of training programmes, we encourage our learners to continue to progress their learning journey with us to develop better futures.

Our entry-level training programmes help individuals, who may have no previous qualifications or work experience, to start the steps towards a successful career.

The Adult Education Budget (AEB) is a government ran scheme that funds skills development qualifications and programmes for learners aged 19 or older, that do not currently hold a qualification in the same subject (level 2 and above). 

These online training programmes:

  • Range from 2 – 12 weeks long, based on the learners capacity.
  • Have a blended delivery model.
  • Are supported by specialist trainers.
  • Result in a nationally recognised qualification.
  • Can be done anywhere, anytime.

Traineeships are open to 16-24-year-olds that have no qualifications above GCSE level and are looking for employment. They are a combination of study and work experience, offering an insight into a variety of industries and result in a guaranteed interview with an employer.

As well as focusing on employability skills, learners will study on one or more of the below sector-specific skills, which will be aligned to their work placement. This enables the traineeship to focus on a specific career and sector.

  • Last from 6 weeks up to a year.
  • Have a blended learning model.
  • Provide at least 100 hours of work placement.
  • Have weekly Mentor support.
  • Focus on maths and English skills, work preparation, CV preparation, interview skills then sector-specific modules of choice.


After completing an Adult Skills Programme or a Traineeship, learners can progress on to do training set in the workplace. 

Learners that already hold any of the following qualifications, don’t need to do an entry-level programme before starting this stage of the learning journey:

  • Five GCSE’s
  • A-Levels
  • Level 3 Qualifications
  • NVQ/SVQ’s
  • BTEC National

Apprenticeships are open to all ages and combine real work-experience with role-specific training, helping aspiring professionals to succeed in the workplace.

The Babington team work closely with learners to ensure they are on the right apprenticeship programme, building a fantastic CV and are prepared for interviews with their chosen employers.

Over 90% of all of our learners stay in employment once the apprenticeship finishes and many progress onto our higher-level apprenticeships

The best way to stay with the same employer and progress onto our higher-level apprenticeships is to show dedication throughout your apprenticeship, which could ultimately lead to further promotion through the company. Even if you don’t stay with the same employer, you can still progress your qualifications through higher-level apprenticeships with a new company.
