Babington Celebrates Marks & Spencer’s Traineeship Success

Held at the Old Bell Hotel in Derby, the awards evening brought together trainees, support staff and current employees to celebrate the completion of the first traineeship Babington has run with Marks and Spencer.

The event commenced with a speech by Sue Harvey, Operations Manager of the Employability division, who spoke about the importance of traineeships in developing employability and industry-specific skills in young people. This was followed by a short speech from trainee Jessica Bell…

Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to the whole of Marks and Spencer and Babington. Since I left my job in February I thought that I wouldn’t find another company like them. Marks and Spencer have been so welcoming and I truly believe that I could see myself there for a very long time! If it wasn’t for Babington I don’t think I would have found a job that suited me so quickly. The people at Babington have been so helpful and the level of support that they offer is unreal, even after the course. I would also like to thank Kate Stirling and Terence Cooper for their perseverance with all of us. The people in my group are all amazing and this experience wouldn’t have been the same without them! So again I would just like to say a massive thank you and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for me at Marks and Spencer!

There was an optimistic atmosphere as the awards were presented by Paul, General Manager and Heather, Supervisor to each learner. The 12-week course has proven to be a huge success, with 6 trainees gaining full-time employment with Marks and Spencer.

Each week you see them grow as they’re going into their lessons, and you see what they’re doing. You see them in the store as they’re gaining confidence talking to staff and customers more, and now they’re just like part of the team. It’s like they’ve been there for 4-5 years; they seem like experienced members of staff, which is really rewarding to see.

Babington’s new relationship with Marks and Spencer is vital in continuing to provide impactful employment opportunities through traineeships. Watch this space, as we look forward to supporting further learners through a traineeship with Marks and Spencer again very soon.
