The Rt. Hon. Dame Margaret Beckett MP officially opened Derby-based Babington’s new training centre, in the city centre, to mark the end of National Apprenticeships Week 2014.
Mrs Beckett and Babington CEO, Carole Carson, were joined by Derby County’s very own mascot ‘Rammie’, to welcome visitors attending the open day at Babington’s new training centre.
Mrs Beckett talked of her own experience of apprenticeships. She said:
“I am proud to be part of National Apprenticeships Week, a campaign that started with around 80,000 participants in 2007 and today has over 240,000. These numbers mean so many fantastic opportunities for young people to train in a real working environment.”
I am passionate about what opportunities apprenticeships bring, as I myself started my career doing an Engineering Apprenticeship. I absolutely loved my apprenticeship; I gained a university level qualification and had the opportunity to mix with so many different people of various ages and roles, a fantastic opportunity which I relished.
Carole Carson, Babington CEO, added “Apprenticeships are central to raising our nation’s skills and delivering strong growth for our economy and indeed our local community. I am very proud of Babington’s recent achievements, which include winning Gold at the prestigious WorldSkills UK competition for the last two years running. In addition, two of our apprentices received invitations to visit the Prime Minister at Downing Street and Parliament, to talk about their experiences and achievements.”
Babington’s new training centre, located in Peat House, Stuart Street, and overlooks the river, adds to Babington’s existing sites in Nottingham, Leicester, Stoke, Sheffield, Lichfield, Leeds, Bolton, Prestwich, Atherton, Warrington and Wolverhampton, as well as the Group’s head office on Pride Park, Derby.
Babington’s new training centre will enhance a company considered to be one of the leading Apprenticeship training providers in the UK.
Babington has provided high quality training since 1974, covering Accountancy, Business Administration, Customer Service, Providing Financial Services and Team Leading & Management, for both employers and apprentices alike. The opening of new offices will allow the company to offer advice and support to a larger number of young people keen to get hands-on work experience and a qualification, all with the added benefit of earning a salary at the same time.
