I want to congratulate you and those you are working with on your successful project bid to develop a new Higher Apprenticeship framework.
This is very important and exciting work which I believe has the potential to have a rapid and profound impact on our Apprenticeships programme in England. It will also make a significant contribution to our nations’ economic recovery. The fact that the Higher Apprenticeship Fund has captured the imagination of some of our biggest employers is a testament to the importance of creating new workplace learning pathways to meeting skill gaps in their organisations at degree and professional level.
Since their introduction back in 2006 around 6,000 people has started a Higher Apprenticeship. I particularly welcome the fact that commitments we have received from the sum of the successful projects promise to deliver around 25,000 Higher Apprenticeship places over the next 3 years. This will be a remarkable achievement and certainly surpasses our original expectations of 10,000 places. This radical expansion will help to redefine higher learning – breaking down the artificial divide between practical learning and academic study – an essential step that will help rebalance our economy and spread opportunity.
I much look forward to hearing about your progress and wish you every success in developing your framework and recruiting new apprentices.
