With so many routes into accountancy available to the budding accountant, it can all get a bit confusing. What different paths are available and, more importantly, where do they lead?

We’ve put together an infographic that shows you some of the most popular routes into accountancy and gives you an idea of where you could end up by following each of them.

Where can you go? Routes into accountancy

Lots of people begin with AAT, which lets you start studying accountancy even without any previous experience. Becoming fully AAT qualified can set you up for a prosperous career on its own. However, as you can see, it also leads nicely onto ACCA qualifications. From there, you can go on to achieve even more qualifications, or embark on a career as a financial accountant.

For those whose ambitions lie more in management accountancy, CIMA qualifications are ideal. You can start with the introductory CIMA Certificate, or you can gain a grounding in accountancy with AAT. Those who have achieved the CIMA Diploma often go on to become successful management accountants. As with ACCA, though, some decide to gain further qualifications.

Use this infographic to help clarify your route into accountancy. And don’t forget to share it with others who might also find it useful!
