Babington’s partnership with the University of Birmingham has seen 18 apprentices start in a diverse range of roles, with the chance to start their career journey and gain valuable skills and experience.
The new recruits have joined the university in roles including engineering, IT, business admin, childcare, and digital media, and have been brought in for both level 2 and level 3 qualifications.
Over 30 managers across the university have also received training and guidance from Babington to mentor and develop the skillset of each and every apprentice.
The apprentices were invited to the university campus on a welcome week, with a variety of workshops and activities to get to know the university and each other, including a tree planting to represent the start of their career journey.
New IT apprentice Dzintars Romans said “so far I am finding the apprenticeship to exceed all my expectations and I was already learning new, useful things on the first day at the workplace.
“When I started the apprenticeship I felt very welcome and was introduced to the staff straight away. With previous experience of apprenticeships, I can honestly say that the apprenticeship scheme at the University is excellent.”
The new apprenticeships have also seen the introduction of online timesheets and e-portfolios to encourage the use of innovative technology, all accessible from mobile. A Twitter account has also been set up to follow the journey of current and future apprentices at the university.
The apprentices will now have an opportunity to earn while they learn, and gain high-quality skills and experience as they take their first steps into the working world. The introduction of this first cohort is an exciting step for the university, for Babington, and no doubt for the apprentices who are looking to develop the skills and experience for their dream career.
