Property Services Apprenticeship – Madina’s story

My name is Madina Ibrahimi and I am currently working as an apprentice sales negotiator for Barnard Marcus – a part of the Connells Group. This has been an amazing opportunity for me, which has given me the chance to gain hands on experience, and work towards a qualification in Residential Sales. I am passionate about progressing on this scheme, because I know that learning and understanding the business and industry inside out will open many doors for myself.

Mentoring and Support

I think being able to start a career at my age is a great achievement, which I’m very grateful for. Without the support of Babington and Connells, I feel that I wouldn’t have been where I am today. Ever since the day I applied they have both been very supportive.  Babington Group have ensured I’m up to date with my coursework, and that I use that knowledge when I’m at work to reach my personal goals and the company’s.

I’ve been working very closely with Courtney Linton and Kathryn Revilles at Babington Group, who have been really friendly and a great source of guidance. They answer any questions I have right away and they have made the whole experience stress-free.

I’ve only been at Barnard Marcus a short while, but I already feel like I’ve gained so much knowledge. My Manager Arif Khan and my Area Manager Chris Randall are excellent role models, they have a lot of experience and are great mentors. If either are busy, they put time aside to help me with daily challenges like explaining policies I don’t understand, and helping me conduct viewings. They are thorough and hands-on, giving me new tasks and taking the time to go over my training each day.

Tasks and Teamwork

Every day starts with a morning meeting, in which we go over the day before and the plans for the day ahead. The team speaks openly about any problems or issues we are having, and we work towards helping each other overcome those struggles. My sales team are always pushing me to better myself, and they’re always around if I need a hand.

Every day I structure my diary and prioritise tasks, such as calling a certain vendor or client, or conducting a major call out on a property. I have regular targets that myself, my manager, and my area manager have discussed, which include achieving a certain number of viewings, market appraisals, and mortgage appointments.

I also have weekly training with my area manager every Friday, which involves keeping all the techniques and strategies fresh in my mind, and helps me progress through the apprenticeship.

An exciting future

Choosing this scheme is something I’m very grateful for, as it’s given me the chance to get my career started very early, and make something of myself. I will always suggest an apprenticeship scheme – the way I see it you are studying while working towards getting a career, which I think is a win-win situation! Overall I’m extremely happy and thankful for the position I’m in at the moment, and I feel that this is the path for a really exciting future.
