My name is Abi Cleary and I recently finished a week of work experience with the Babington Group in the eCommerce team. The eCommerce team handles the sales of commercial courses, and also includes online marketing and social media for apprenticeships. I was a bit unsure about what I would be doing during the week, and wondered if I would just be shadowing people in the office. However, the team gave me lots of different tasks to take on
For example, I was given the privilege to take over the Babington Instagram for the week and learn how to market to a younger audience like myself, and create interest in apprenticeships on social media. I was also asked to do write a blog post about accounting apprenticeships, which built my knowledge about both accounting and apprenticeships, including wages and working hours.
However, my favourite task was to create a social calendar, and research different events and trends that happen each day and that Babington can discuss on social media. It was funny finding out that some days like ‘toothache day’ and ‘guinea pig appreciation day’ even exist!
The eCommerce team were great to work with and have a laugh with too, even if a few of them did make fun of my black country accent! I found it easy to talk to them and ask any questions I had.
Before my work experience I had my mind set on going into midwifery and going to university. However, learning more about marketing and sales and getting more information on apprenticeships has made me aware of the different paths I can go down when I finish school.
I would just like to say a big thanks to first the Babington Group who let my do my work experience there, and secondly the eCommerce team who I was privileged to spend the week with!
