Here’s what director Emma Brownbridge had to say about their experience:
What day to day tasks do your apprentices do?
Our Junior Agents have done a little of everything! From valuing properties, attending valuations, viewings, marketing, negotiations, offers, progression, and everything in between. But their main roles are client and customer communication which involves speaking to people on the phone and via email booking viewings, updating on progress, listening to, and advising people on the next steps.
How has the training helped build your business for years to come?
Training two apprentices helps refresh my skills and knowledge and highlights what we should put in place to help future employees learn/ progress also. Having the apprentice’s means we can grow by handling a higher number of files and I can work more of the behind-the-scenes jobs as a director.
How has COVID-19 affected your apprenticeship experience?
The only real effect is that they are doing less viewings because we are trying to keep them in the office to shield them and stop a chain of contact from the public. But other than this they are unaffected as it is business as usual for estate agents.
What progression opportunities do your apprentices have?
We hope that our apprentices will stay with us as we would like to progress them on to level 3 Estate Agents and into roles suited to each of them that they have shown talent for – Libby a valuer – Izzy a progression
How have apprenticeships helped your business to adapt, grow and build during a difficult year due to COVID-19?
The property market has been booming since the government allowed us to open again in May 2020 so having the apprentices have allowed us to keep up with the short-term high demand… whilst keeping relatively sane!
Would you recommend that other businesses consider apprentices? If so, why?
Yes! Choosing the right ones could not only benefit your day-to-day business working but also is a great boost to moral and helps give the business a new lease of life with enthusiasm and keenness to learn and progress. You need to be flexible in your mind set remembering they are young, in experienced and that they aren’t you so do things different but one of the joys is finding new ways together and adapting.
