Introduction to the course

Our Level 3 technology programme is focused on the IT needs of businesses across the country. During the 12-month programme, participants will cover topics and learn invaluable skills which will help businesses identify areas for growth and provide the resources to develop and accommodate the needs of businesses of all sizes.

During their academy days, participants will study Systems Architecture and Cloud Computing. Apprentices will also remotely study the Principles of ICT Systems and Data Security.

As part of the Competency, compulsory elements will cover Health & Safety, Developing own effectiveness & professionalism, and Interpersonal & written communication. Optional elements depending on the job role can include; Technical Fault Diagnosis, ICT hardware, Investigating & defining customer requirements for ICT systems, ICT security, Software installation, System Management, System operation, Technical advice & guidance, Testing, Programming (procedural, object oriented, event driven).


Module 1: Systems Architecture

This unit covers how information is represented and processed in a computer, communication processes in networks and distributed systems and distributed applications and transaction processing. It also involves knowledge and use of an operating environment.

Module 2: Principles of ICT System and Data Security

This unit develops an understanding of the types of threat to ICT systems and data and methods of protecting against them. It also covers an understanding of the applications of cryptography to ICT systems and data.

Module 3: Principles and Concepts of Cloud Computing

Learners will gain basic knowledge of the Cloud computing principles and concepts and their role in businesses. They will develop knowledge and some understanding of how cloud services are adopted by businesses.
