What will I be doing?
The Hairdressing Level 2 apprenticeship is designed with hairdressing beginners in mind and will equip you with the skills and experience required to get started in this industry.
Hands-on salon experience is essential in this role, and so this qualification will enable you to learn from experienced hairdressing professionals and also gain the practical knowledge at a training facility.
This apprenticeship will give you a number of new techniques that you can use to cut and style hair professionally. Some of the tasks you will have include:
- Styling and finishing hair
- Cutting hair using basic techniques
- Colouring and lightening hair
- Fitting and removing hair extensions
- Consulting with clients to attend to their individual needs
You can also expand your skillset with additional modules such as perming and relaxing hair, fulfilling reception duties, cutting men’s hair using basic techniques.
What qualifications will I achieve?
You will achieve a level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing and if required, level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics and English.
The level 2 certificate in Hairdressing will supply you with a great foundation of knowledge, which you can then expand with the level 3 apprenticeship in Hairdressing.
What are the entry requirements?
A hairdressing apprenticeship is for anyone who’s serious about a hairdressing career.
You can join Hairdressing level 2 without any formal qualifications. However, it is beneficial if you have a good attention to detail, and are of a friendly nature to interact with customers.
What can I do afterwards?
A Hairdressing NVQ can jump-start your career in a salon, where you can get your first salon assistant job.
If you wish to continue improving your hairdressing abilities, you might decide to continue on to complete Hairdressing Level 3. With the higher levels, you could become a stylist and go on to be a salon manager.
I’ve really enjoyed my training, and it’s pushing me further towards my goal to open my own salon. I’ve had so much fun on the apprenticeship, where I’ve also won the Britain’s Best award in the bridal and glamorous hair categories. My training advisor Janine has been amazing. She has pushed me along and offered lots of help and advice that I will take with me for years to come.
I’ve always loved being creative and this apprenticeship has really allowed me to channel my creativity. I am adding to my line of skills and want to keep progressing with the level 2 in hairdressing, as the salon I work in is unisex and is broadening my skills. I would like to succeed into the training side of barbering to pass my creative skills down to the next generation.
I really enjoy my apprenticeship, I feel like I am learning a lot, the experience I am gaining in the salon I work at is really valuable.
