Introduction to the course
The Level 3 IT Solutions Technician programme is designed to provide the knowledge and skills to develop, implement and maintain complete IT solutions, including their hardware infrastructure. IT Solutions Technicians apply a professional methodology or framework to gather and analyse the requirements in order to design, develop, test and implement the most appropriate IT solutions.
This programme offers two pathways that provide the underpinning knowledge and skills in either a Hardware Solutions role or a Software Solutions role.
Both pathways within this programme include a core set of common knowledge requirements and skills which include the following:
- Solution Life-cycles and Development Methodologies
- Approaches and Benefits to DevOps
- End User Understanding
- Solution Testing
- Networking and Computer Systems
- Emerging Technologies
- IT Security
- Cloud Computing
Learning is assessed throughout the programme in line with the requirements of each pathway. Learners will be supported by a mentor during the programme to develop the knowledge and skills required within either a Hardware or the Software role and to build a portfolio of evidence. Once all on programme elements have been demonstrated the learner will progress to the end point assessment where they will complete a Knowledge Test, a Synoptic Project and Interview with an End Point Assessor.

On completion of the apprenticeship, learners may apply for entry onto the register of IT Technicians. Learners may also have the opportunity to progress to a higher apprenticeship.
