What will I be doing?
This is a fantastic opportunity to start a successful accounting career right here with a Foundation level apprenticeship.
On the apprenticeship, you will work towards an AAT qualification that will lay down a foundation of knowledge needed to thrive in an accounting role. You will also get the chance to put these skills into practise with at least 12 months of workplace experience in the industry, taking on tasks such as basic costing, controlling accounts and journals, and gaining an insight into the banking system.
On top of that, you will be earning weekly wages and have a great chance of continuing with the company if you impress in the job.
You will progress through five key areas of this qualification, which include:
- Bookkeeping transactions
- Bookkeeping Controls
- Using Accounting Software
- Elements of Costing
- Work effectively in Finance
What qualifications will I achieve?
You will achieve a Level 2 Foundation AAT Certificate in Accounting and if required, level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics and English.
The Foundation AAT certificate is the first stage of a three tier qualification that results in an AAT membership. Click here to learn about the next stage in AAT, the advanced accounting apprenticeship.
What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal requirements nor prior experience needed in order to apply for this apprenticeship.
Whether you’re completely new to accounting or simply want to brush up on your current knowledge, this is an excellent place to start.
What can I do afterwards?
After completing your apprenticeship, you may wish to progress further on to Accounting Advanced Level.
Alternatively, you could apply for positions such as accounts or payroll administrator, tax assistant, or trainee accounts technician, amongst others.
Apprentice or Employer?
What impressed me most about my level 2 studies was the way that most things I learned during the qualification linked to the work I was doing in the office. This really helped me to understand the role better, as I knew about everything that was happening behind the scenes. All my tutors have been exceptional teachers, and the fact that I have passed all my exams first time only proves this!
I’d recommend the AAT training through apprenticeship route to any young budding Accountant. With the support of my employer I was able to earn and learn at the same time rather than coming out of University with debt and no guarantee of a job at the end of it. The support of Babington has enabled me not only to complete my AAT qualifications but also to compete at prestigious events such as WorldSkillsUK.
During my AAT studies the Babington staff were really helpful. They were flexible with exam dates, and the tutors were really helpful in spending extra time with me if I didn’t understand things. It was particularly helpful that they had previously worked in business, so they gave me practical examples of when certain skills were used. Their genuine enthusiasm for the subject helped me realise that this is not just a job – it’s a career.
